Our products are designed and manufactured with two different types of metal: aluminum and zinc.  The function and form of our components dictate what metal is best suited for the task it was designed for. The color of finish of these metals is achieved using completely different methods and the way they accept the color is different as well.

Example: if you apply the same color of wood stain to pine and cedar you will get completely different end results. To more closely match, you would need to choose completely different stains for each wood to try and match the desired tone and color.

We do the same thing with our aluminum and zinc – and select finishing processes and materials that provide us the high standards and quality we know designers expect. Where an exact match with our metal components is not achievable we have opted to create accents.

Finishes like black or polished chrome are quite consistent between the two metals– they are solo artists. Others are deliberately two-toned, like matte aluminum paired with chrome accents  or matte gold with a pop of bright gold. They have differences between the pieces that work together in harmony. That complementary pairing can be seen in some of our products such as pull-out racks and shoe fences.

The subtle contrast between the bright accents and the matte finish on the aluminum provides an understated but elegantly modern look, and this complementary dual-tones of shiny and matte gives depth to the appearance of the accessories.

  • The colors of some products will look slightly different due to the type of metal they are made from. For example: The finish on pole cups (made of zinc) will not exactly match the closet pole (made of aluminum) – by design they compliment one another. The different metals undergo different finish processes and accept color differently. To complicate matters further, each finish will look different under different types of light. Fluorescent light is perhaps the worst for color assessment and thus product may not match what is shown in any photo.
  • When assessing color finishes, we also have to consider how & where these products are used when installed. For example, two lengths of pole going into one closet may not match exactly unless they are cut from the same length. Typically poles are mounted at a distance from one another and typically in darker sections. Slight variations in color should not be noticeable.
  • All aluminum products are anodized and are produced to fall within a defined color range for each finish. Anodizing is an electro-chemical process that can be influenced by a number of different factors. Once a product has been anodized, the factory selects only the pieces that fall within the acceptable range. In the event that some of these pieces do get through the inspection process, and they are deemed to be unacceptable, TAG will replace those pieces.
